Essential Oil Starter Kit
Are you interested in using essential oils but don't know how to begin? Young Living has the most efficient way to get started on your health and wellness journey. Get the full breakdown of the premium starter kit below.
Contents of the Kit
The Young Living premium starter kit comes with a diffuser of your choice and twelve of the most popular and versatile essential oils and essential oil blends. The premium starter kit also comes with a handful of small product samples: Thieves spray, Thieves hand sanitizer and two sachets of Ningxia Red. You will also get two aromaglide rollerball fitments, a quick guide reference book on essential oils, an essential oil magazine cookbook and a current product guide booklet.
Limitless Potential
The Premium Starter Kit with Young Living has practically limitless potential! Diffusing is an obvious way to start using your kit right away! You will have the yummiest smelling home on the block! In addition to diffusing, you will use this kit for cleaning, as a first aid kit and for personal care use! There are numerous oils in your kit for cleaning and laundry including lemon, citrus fresh and thieves. The oils I refer to as "first aid" oils (stuffy head, upset stomach, skin irritation, head tension, sore muscles and immune support) are raven, panaway, digize, peppermint, Thieves, frankincense and lavender. Oils for emotional support include valor, stress away, peace and calming and lavender. And your personal care oils (think skin and hair care) include lavender, lemon and frankincense.
Why Young Living
I started using essential oils by purchasing a premium starter kit from Young Living. There are (probably) several hundred essential oil brands distributing oils internationally. I chose to purchase from Young Living because of their Seed to Seal Promise. This is a set of values Young Living promises to uphold regarding their sourcing, science and standards. In short, Young Living exercises full control of their agricultural practices, harvesting, quality control testing, storage and bottling of oils as well as following their own personally developed global compliance program. Because of these practices I can rest assured my essential oils are unadulterated (meaning pure and not tampered with or diluted to be less than therapeutic grade). This is of utmost importance to me because I use essential oils for their therapeutic health benefits as well as to replace toxic, harmful substances throughout my home (candles, laundry soap, all purpose cleanser, among several others). Also, Young Living has over 600 products (cleaning, laundry and kitchen items, personal care products, vitamins and supplements) that are all clean, plant-based and safe. I like being able to purchase so many of my routine household items from the same trusted source. They also have a killer rewards program that sweetens my purchasing habits!
The Diffuser
Young Living will let you choose a diffuser for your starter kit. The diffuser is made of medical grade plastic. This is important to note because most diffusers are not made of medical grade plastic. Overtime the essential oils will actually start to degrade the plastic of diffusers that are not made with medical grade plastic. The diffusers in the premium starter kit come with three settings for diffusing, high, low and intermediate. The aria (seen left in top picture) and dessert mist (seen right in top picture) diffusers have options for displaying colored lights while they diffuse. An extra feature of the aria diffuser is it's ability to function as a sound machine. A benefit to the dessert mist diffuser is it's use as a nightlight even when it's not diffusing. The dessert mist diffuser has my favorite candle flicker setting that omits the warm and cozy vibe of a candle.
The Oils
You will notice 5 of the 12 oils come with white labels instead of colored labels. These are called vitality oils and this means they are FDA approved for ingestion.
Lavender (vitality oil)
Lavender is probably the mostly commonly known essential oil. There are so many ways to use lavender. My favorite way to use lavender is on my skin and hair. I use it in my facial moisturizer for breakouts and facial redness. It can be applied to skin to soothe irritation. I also use it in my shampoo, conditioner and in a DIY hair spray to support healthy hair growth and as an anti-frizzing agent. Lavender is very well known for it's relaxing and calming effects and as a sleep support oil. Lavender makes a great DIY room and linen spray. I like to spritz my sheets and pillows with lavender before climbing into bed at night! I also like lavender in my laundry soap and on wool dryer balls.
Although the lavender bottle in the starter kit doesn’t have a white label, YL does sell lavender in a white labeled bottle because it is a vitality oil, FDA approved for ingestion.
Peace and Calming
Blend: tangerine, orange, ylang ylang, patchouli, blue tansy
If I had to only chose one oil that I would never want to be without it would be this oil! It's easily my favorite with it's woodsy, floral and citrusy aroma! I use peace and calming in my diffuser every night. I also make body spray and roller balls with peace and calming to wear like perfume. For me personally, the peace and calming oil blend has an actual effect of bringing a peace and calm over me. I roll this oil on my wrists everyday before work and on my feet every night before bed. I don't personally have children but have heard testimonies of mothers rolling this oil on their children as a temper tantrum taming oil.
Stress Away
Blend: copaiba, lime, cedarwood, vanilla, ocotea, lavender
Stress away smells like a paradise vacation in a bottle. Diffusing this relaxing blend is the perfect way to unwind after a long day! I love the blend of vanilla and lime. Stress away is another emotional support oil. It is also a favorite of mine to put in a roller ball with carrier oil to rub on my wrists and neck for a natural perfume. Stress away makes for a soothing room or linen spray.
Digize (vitality oil)
Blend: taragon, ginger, peppermint, juniper, fennel, lemongrass, anise, patchouli
You may be an essential oil skeptic until you try Digize for the first time! This oil is specifically formulated for gastrointestinal support. It doesn't smell good and you won't want to diffuse it, but when experiencing discomfort this oil will be your best friend! Place a roller fitment directly on the bottle and rub topically on your throat, chest or stomach. You can ingest a drop in a cup of water or drop in a vegetable capsule daily to support healthy digestion.
Valor
Blend: blue tansy, black spruce, camphor, frankincense, geranium
Valor is an emotional support oil, also considered the courage and bravery oil, it can help calm big or overwhelming feelings and emotions. When I find myself getting upset I like to rub valor on my neck and wrists. When I really need to take a few minutes to decompress (feeling fearful, angry or overwhelmed) I'll drop a few drops in my hands, rub them together, cup my nose and inhale a few deep breaths. This practice is almost like a total body reset. Even when my emotions are not running high I love to dilute valor in a carrier oil and roll it on my neck and wrists as a natural perfume.
Lemon (vitality oil)
I use a drop or two of lemon in my water regularly for fresh flavor, digestion support and as a natural detoxing agent. You only need 1-2 drops. It takes 75 lemons to make a bottle of lemon EO so it’s very concentrated. Lemon is a natural goo-gone and stain remover so I use it in almost all of my cleaning and laundry DIYs. It has a very fresh and uplifting scent when it’s diffused. I also use lemon in my facial moisturizer as a natural skin brightening agent.
Panaway
Blend: wintergreen, clove, peppermint
My favorite way to use panaway oil is topically. I drop this in a roller ball with a carrier oil for a sore muscle rub. It is cooling and menthol-y for an icy/hot sensation. I will also drop this oil into epsom salts and shake them in the tub for sore and achy muscles and joints. Diffusing this oil blend with stress away will literally make you think you are smelling a root beer float.
You will notice this oil has a special tamper seal top because it contains wintergreen, a hot oil, which is not safe for children under the age of 6.
Peppermint (vitality oil)
Peppermint can be used in so many ways. It’s great for opening up a stuffy head. I use peppermint in a rollerball blend (with lemon and lavender) for seasonal support (itchy eyes and ears, runny nose). Peppermint is really energizing so it’s a great oil to diffuse in the morning while you’re getting ready to start your day or during an at home workout. Peppermint can be diluted in carrier oil and rubbed topically on sore and achy muscles for a cooling sensation or across your temples for relief of head tension. For support of healthy digestion, place a drop of peppermint oil in a glass of water or in a vegetable capsule. If you drop peppermint on your thumb and press it to the roof of your mouth it can alleviate feelings of motion sickness. If you like mint flavor, put a drop in coffee, hot chocolate, brownies or fudge, for holiday flavored treats.
Raven
Blend: ravintsara, lemon, wintergreen, peppermint, eucalyptus
Raven is your respiratory support oil. In addition to diffusing this oil, you can make a DIY vapo rub with a carrier oil for your throat and chest. I like to drop raven on the floor of a hot, steamy shower to help clear my stuffy chest and head. Another effective way to utilize raven for respiratory support is to boil water, pour water into a large bowl, drop a few drops of raven in and hide your head underneath a towel that covers the bowl. This will really help open up your head! Since raven contains wintergreen and peppermint it will also support sore muscles and head tension. Rubbing raven on the bottom of your feet will support a healthy immune system during winter months.
You will notice this oil has a special tamper seal top because it contains wintergreen, a hot oil, which is not safe for children under the age of 6.
Frankincense
Frankincense has a very woodsy aroma. From an emotional standpoint, frankincense is calming, grounding and centering. It is wonderful for aging skin and can be applied directly to fine lines and wrinkles for a youthful glow. Frankincense also supports cuts, scrapes and skin irritation. Frankincense supports a healthy immune system and is great to combine with lavender for restful sleep support.
Thieves (vitality oil)
Blend: clove, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus, rosemary
Thieves smells like Christmas (happiness) in a bottle! The clove and cinnamon omit a cozy, warm scent. Thieves is the base of Young Living cleaning products and a lot of their personal care products. The individual oils that encompass the thieves blend are well known for their individual abilities to support a healthy immune system. I make a rollerball with thieves and carrier oil and rub it on my spine and feet daily to support my immune system. If you start to feel under the weather you can drop thieves in a hot cup of tea or make a supplement with thieves in a vegetable capsule to boost your immune system. I like to spray my houseplants with thieves to keep the leaves shiny and the soil fresh and clean!
Citrus Fresh (vitality oil)
Blend: tangerine, orange, lemon, grapefruit, mandarin, spearmint
Citrus fresh is an uplifting and clean smelling blend. Give your water a burst of flavor with 1-2 drops of this oil. This oil can also be used to boost your cleaning DIYs such as soft scrub or laundry soap. My favorite way to use citrus fresh is in my DIY scent booster (for laundry and for my cats liter box) and on wool dryer balls. Mix this blend with stress away for an orange creamsicle scent!

Ningxia Red supports normal cellular function and DNA synthesis, supports energy levels, normal blood sugar levels, eye health and overall total body wellness. How to Become a Member
I compare becoming a member of Young Living to becoming a member at Sam's Club or Costco. At these stores you have to purchase a membership card which then allows you to shop at wholesale (vs retail) prices. The concept is the same at Young Living, except instead of buying a membership, you are buying a premium starter kit. The premium starter kit (diffuser, oils and samples) is your "membership card" into Young Living. Once you are a member, you can shop products at wholesale prices and you are eligible to sign up for their loyalty/rewards program. There is never any pressure to purchase monthly or to sell oils when you become a member of Young Living. The items within the premium starter kit retail for over $400 when sold individually. The cost of the premium starter kit for new members is only $165. Considering the many ways to use the kit (diffusing, cleaning, personal care items, sleep support, emotional support and wellness support) it really is the most bang for your buck!
When you become a member of my Young Living team you are joining a community of supportive individuals that care about your health and wellness journey! I'd be so honored that you'd trust me with this process! You are provided with the resources you need to confidently start using your starter kit and incorporating oils into your everyday routine! Totally optional resources for education include exclusive Facebook groups, access to DIY recipes and graphics, zoom meetings and monthly newsletters to support you. The last thing I want is for you to receive your starter kit and not know how to use it. As a team we work really hard to make sure you feel educated and empowered to use your kit and supported when you have questions!
